Eastern Palace - A Link to the Past

Kakariko Village

Once you have saved the Princess and talked to the old man about the elder in the village, leave the Sanctuary and head out to the outside. Walk down, outside the gate, and make your way to the main path and walk to the left. As you walk you will see signs pointing to Kakariko Village. Thats how you'll know you're going the right way. Along the bottom side of the path, you'll reach a wooden post, resembling the same post at the entrance to Kakariko Village in Ocarina of Time. Walk down and into Kakariko Village. The first house on your left is supposed to be the house with the elder inside. If you go in and talk to the old woman inside, you will find out that he is not there, and that she only knows the legend of the Master Sword. She will tell you to seek out someone in the village who knows the whereabouts of the elder. From the old woman's house, walk to the left, and follow the main stone path. Walk down the stairs, past the salesman on the left. Follow the path down, right, then down again. You should find a young boy in the southern part of town, near 2 chickens. Talk to him and he will tell you the location of the elder. Before you leave the village, you will need to get Bug Catchers net. A small boy in the village has it, but he needs a bottle first, so go to the bottle salesman in the west part of the village. You will need 100 rupees to buy a bottle. If you don't have a 100 rupees, a good spot to get rupees is the cave, north of the salesman, and the old house of thieves, next to the elders house. Once you have 100 rupees, head to the salesman and buy a bottle. From there, walk down, right, then down, and walk into the house on the right. There should be a small sick boy in bed. Once you talk to him, he will let you borrow his bug catching net. Now leave the house, and walk directly down from the past house and enter the back entrance of the house below. Inside on the left, will be a chest, with another magic bottle.

Now that you have a bug catching net and magic bottle, you are ready to go to the Eastern Palace. Walk to the north and exit Kakariko Village the same way you came in. Walk to the right and follow the path, while defeating all of the guards along the way. Follow the path past the sanctuary, then down along the river. You will make your way to a wooden bridge. Cross it, then walk down, following the canyon wall. Continue to walk down until you see some white statues around a dirth path on the right. Follow that path to the right, follow it to the entrance of the Eastern Palace area, up the stairs. You should see some statues of birds there. Walk up, past that, and you should find a house in a depression in the hill. Jump down to the house and enter. Inside, you will find the village elder, Sahasrahla, a descendant of the seven sages. He will tell you that only the hero who has won 3 pendants can wield the Master Sword. He will have you retreive the Pendant of Courage from the East Palace first.

Walk to the right, climb the stairs, then climb the next stairs, and continue up to the entrance of the Palace, guarded by 2 armos statues.

Along the bridge ahead, there is another switch in the floor. Step on it to continue through the next door ahead. In the next room, you will find a lot of cannon balls rolling towards you in the hall ahead. Dodge the balls by walking to the left or right of them, quickly. You can use the side of the hall to protect your from the cannon balls. Once you are past that, walk to the left, then walk down, up the stairs, then walk to the right and across the bridge to reach a chest on the other side. Inside is a 100 rupees. Now walk back to the left, then up, to the right, up the stairs and enter the door ahead. Walk up, then walk to the left where there is 2 pots and a switch in the middle of them. Lift the pots, then step on the switch to open the door above. Enter the opened door, defeat the 4 stalfos inside, then walk down and to the left to find the next door. In this next room, you should see bones on the floor. 4 stalfos will appear once the doors close. Defeat the stalfos either with your sword, or by throwing pots at them. Once they are defeated, continue through the door above. In this room, cross the bridge to find a chest with the Compass inside. Now continue by going down the stairs to the left, then walk to the right to the next room. In the next room, you should see a tile in the wall. Press A near the tile and you will be able to talk telepathically with Sahasrahla. Now continue through the door on the right. In this next room, you will see a large chest in the southern part of the room. You won't be able to open it right now, since you don't have the Big Key yet. So, just continue to the right and through the next door. Walk underneath the stalfos and elevated pathways above in the next room, and make your way to the bottom of the room, and climb the stairs to the next room. This next room will be darkened and have 2 skull bubbles. Walk to the right quickly and down to find a switch on the ground that opens the door on the right. Activate the switch then enter the door. This room is darkened as well, and has more stalfos inside. Defeat the stalfos, and break open the pots. One of them has a key inside. Pick up the key and leave the room the same way you came in. Now walk quickly down, to the left, then up to find a locked door. Enter through it with your key and walk across the elevated bridge in the next room, across the cannon ball area. You will find another door on the far side of the room, enter it. In this room, you will find more stalfos, 4 red skull bubbles, and an enemy with one eye. Defeat the one eyed enemy either by hitting it with your sword when its eye is open, or by throwing pots at it when its eye is open. Once all the enemies are defeated, the red bubbles will float away from a pot in the center of the room. Lift up the pot to find a switch. The switch reveals a chest above. Open the chest to find the Big Key. Now walk up to the door on the north side of the room and open it with the aid of your Big Key. Walk down the stairs, then move the block on the right to clear the path and continue ahead. You will find youself back at the place where you can telepathically talk to Sahasrahla. Walk to the door on the right. Now walk to the bottom of the screen and find the large chest and open it to claim the Bow!

Bow.jpg (35723 bytes)

After you have the bow, four Stalfos will appear around you, so quickly move to the north part of the room, where theres a locked door. If you're short on hearts, you can drop into the 2 large pots near the locked door to fill up on hearts with the aid of some fairies. Open the door and continue into the darkened room. There are several enemies in here, defeat all of them to get a key. Defeat the armored cyclops enemies with your bow or sword. Once all the enemies are defeated, move the pot in the upper right corner of the room to clear the path to get to the door on the right. Inside this room are 2 bubbles and a lot of rupees. Collect the rupees while avoiding the bubbles, and leave. Go to the opposite side of the darkened room, to the locked door on the left and open it. The door will lead you to the 2nd floor. There is 2 bubbles in this room and 4 pots. Lift up the pots to reveal a switch under one of them. The switch will activate the door on the left. In the room on the left, there will be 3 armored, one-eyed enemies, as well as 3 switches and a door on the left. Defeat the enemies with your bow, then step on the switch near the bottom of the screen to open the door. Proceed to the next room, where you will find cannonballs being shot at every direction. Quickly make your way to the switch on the ground in the upper left corner of the room and press it. The door on the left will now be open, enter it. In this room, there are 2 stalfos, and a red armored enemy. The armored enemy will take 2 hits from the bow, rather than 1 from the regular green enemies. Once the enemies are defeated, the door above will open. Go up to the next room, where you'll find more small enemies and 2 red armored enemies. Defeat all of them, then proceed ahead to the boss room.

Armos Knights

To defeat the 6 Armos Knights, you will need your Bow and some arrows. The 6 Knights will come alive and start bouncing around you in a circle. Stand in one of the corners of the room to avoid their bouncing. After that, they will line up in a row and bounce towards you. Shoot them with arrows to hold them back and to damage them. It will take 3 arrow hits to defeat each knight. Once you narrow it down to 1 knight, the last one will turn red and jump around, trying to crush you. Shoot arrows at him when he lands. After 3 hits, he will be defeated, and a heart container will appear, as well as the Pendant of Courage!
