Mountain Tower - A Link to the Past

Now that you have the 2nd pendant, you must claim the third, on Death Mountain. But first, you will need to visit the Zora's Falls to earn the Zora's Flippers, which you will need 500 rupees for. From the Desert of Mystery and the exit of the Desert Palace, move the small green stones with R, and walk to the right, and down to exit the Desert to the East. Make your way back to the Great Swamp, while moving light green colored stones out of your way. Once in the grassy Great Swamp, walk to the north and through the exit across from Link's house. You should run into a crossroads there, with Link's House and Hyrule Castle to the north, Kakariko Village to the west, and the East Palace to the east. Head to the east and after a while, you should see a stone bridge leading north. Cross the bridge and continue north. Cross the dirt area with the small enemies. You should see a wooden bridge to the left, that leads to the castle. Continue going north from there and you should run into some small bushes and a few small light colored stones, in your path. Clear the path and continue north, along the canyon following the river. Follow it to the right and you should see the Magic Shop. Continue to the right and up and move the large light colored stone in your way to continue along the canyon wall. Follow it up, to the right, then down to find 3 piles of light colored stones. Break them with a running slash attack, holding R with your Pegasus Shoes. Once those are out of your way, follow the path to the right and north. At the end of the path, you will run into a grass area, and access to the river. Follow the shallow edge of the river to the north to enter the Zora's Falls.

Zora's Falls

Inside Zora's Falls, follow the shallow path of the river north, past the first small grassy island and north until the path turns to the east. When you reach the first path that you can take to the south, take it, and follow it all the way to the bottom path. Follow that path to the east and north to reach the end of the path, where you will find a large Zora. The Zora will ask you what you want, so say that you want the Flippers. You will need 500 rupees to pay for the Flippers. Once you pay the money, he will give you the Zora's Flippers, allowing you to now swim in deep water.

Now that you have the flippers, walk to the south and swim in the deep water, and over the waterfall, to reach the path below. Follow that path down and to the left. Then swim down the waterfall and follow the next path below, to the left. Follow that till it you meet the next path, then go south and out of the Zora's Falls area. Once outside, you can go down, then to the left and up into the waterfall on the left to enter a cave behind the waterfall, the Waterfall of Wishing. Inside, you will find a pond of water around two torches. You will be asked to throw something inside if you want. To upgrade some of your items, you can start by tossing your boomerang inside. A fairy will appear shortly after and will ask you if that was your boomerang you tossed in. Answer honestly by saying yes, and she will upgrade your boomerang to the Magic Boomerang and give it back to you. Next, you can toss in your shield. Say to the fairy that you tossed it in there and she will upgrade it to the Red Shield, allowing you to defend against fire balls. Now exit the Waterfall of Wishing, and swim down the river to the south. Near a zora in the river, you should see a whirlpool. Swim into the whirlpool to enter a warp, that will take you to Lake Hylia.

Lake Hylia

Once you have warped to the middle of Lake Hylia, swim to the east and north. You will see a small river to the right after a while. Swim up the small river and follow it up and to the left. You will pass under the stone bridge connecting the East Palace and the Great Swamp. Pass under it to the left and you will find a man under the bridge on the north shore of the river. Walk onto the dock and visit the man near his camp. Talk to him and he will give you a bottle.

Now leave the man and swim back into the river, and swim to the east, then south. Once you emerge into the lake, swim to the west and follow the north shore until you find a dock leading to a cave with a shop inside. Continue walking north past the shop, and cross the stone bridge that you swam under a few moments ago. Pass through the dirt area and continue to head north. Follow the path to the wooden bridge on the left to access the other side of the river. Follow that path to the left, up, then to the left again and follow that path to the west, past the Graveyard and Sanctuary to the north of the path. Once you are past the Sanctuary, you will see a sign along the way, that directs you to Kakariko Village. You should also see a small pond on the upper left. From the sign, head north along the ponds west edge. Walk to the north 1 screen, then head towards the right. You should begin to see a sign permitting you not to enter Death Mounain without permission from the King, and a cave on the far right, blocked by a large green boulder. Lift the boulder with R and enter the cave. Inside the dark cave, walk up the path and turn right at the first path to the right. Follow the path down and to the right. At the dead end, take the path to the north, then right to find an old man standing in front of an entrance. He requests that he follows you, since he lost his Lamp. So, lead him inside the entrance to the cave at right. He will then talk about holes in the ground and about the Golden Power. After hes done talking, walk to the right, past the hole, and follow that path until it dead ends. The old man will talk about a granddaughter of his. Now take the path to the south. You will run into a few bats, so defeat them, then continue south to find the cave exit. Once outside again, walk down and to the right, and the old man will talk to you again and give you the Magic Mirror. From there, you can go inside the cave above to replenish your hearts. From where you got the Magic Mirror, go to the right and climb up the wooden ladder. From there, walk to the left, following the cliff edge. You will run into the end of the path and find a large wooden ladder leading to the top of the mountain. Climb it, then walk to the right. You will see a cave above, and an area with 3 small light colored boulders, and 3 large rock formations. Theres a warp in the middle of it to the Dark World (see Dark World Map). Enter the warp and transport to the Dark World. Once there, you will notice that you have a bunny hood on, and you will not be able to use any item, except for the Magic Mirror. If you walk to the left and speak to the strange people near where the large mountain used to be, you will find out that you will need to later get the Moon Pearl to remain in your regular state. Now, where the mountain used to be with the cave, stand on one of the two small circles, then use your Magic Mirror to transport you back to the Light World. You will return, ontop of the mountain, and near a heart piece to collect. You can now access the other side of the mountain, by jumping off the edge above, and following the path to the right, to find the Mountain Tower dungeon, or the Tower of Hera, and enter.

Mountain Tower

Inside the Mountain Tower, you will notice some blue raised barriers blocking your way inside the tower. Hit the red colored switch in front of you with your sword or boomerang to lower the blue barriers and raise the red ones. The switches should be a blue color now. Now that you can access the doors to the left and right, walk to the left and down the stairs to the 1st floor. In this room, there are some stalfos and a Mini-Moldorm in the middle. Defeat all of the enemies and hit the switch in the upper left corner of the room to lower the barriers to access a key, where the Mini-Moldorm was. Now head back up to the 2nd floor the same way you came down. You will be blocked off when you come back up. You can use your boomerang to activate the switch below you, or you can go back downstairs and activate the switch in the lower room again. Once you have access to the first room of the tower again, use your boomerang or sword to activate one of the switches again to lower the wall of barriers blocking your access to the upper portion of the room. Once activated, continue up, and you will find a statue with a tile that will enable you to talk with Sahasrahla. Continue up, and you will find several enemies in this part of the room, with a chest in the center. Open the chest to find the Map. Now walk up to the upper left corner of the room, while defeating the fire breathing enemies, and open the locked door there. That will take you down to the first floor. In this room, you will find the floor tiles flying at you. Quickly go to the lower left corner of the room, lift up the pots, and activate the switch to turn it blue. Now, defeat all of the tiles with your sword while standing against a wall. Once all of them are defeated, the door on the right will open, and you should be able to enter it.

On the room on the right, you will find 3 mini-moldorms, with 2 blocked off by raised barriers. Defeat the 1 lone one, then you can defeat the other 2 by using your sword either before or after you activate the switch. Once you have activated the switch, it should be red. Walk to the door opened on the bottom of the screen. In this room, you will find 2 stalfos. Defeat them while watching out for their throwing bones. Now use your lamp to light all 4 of the torches in the lower part of the room. Once lighted, a chest will appear with the Big Key inside.

Now, you can backtrack by walking back to the entrance, or simply by using your Magical Mirror to warp you back to the start of the tower. Once at the entrance, activate the switch to lower the barriers, then activate the switch on the right to lower the barriers blocking the stairs on the right. Now go up the stairs to reach the third floor. In this room, there are 3 beetles. Defeat the 3 beetles with your sword to open the door on the left, while avoiding the holes in the ground leading back to the 2nd floor below. In the left room, there are a few more beetles. Defeat them, then step on the star tile directly in front of where you came in. This will allow entrance to the locked door in the upper portion of the room. In the next room, you will find more beetles. Defeat them while avoiding stepping on the star tiles. Walk to the right to find a switch at the far side of the room. Activate it to gain entrance to the stairs leading to the 4th floor. In this room, walk down and move the 3 pots. Defeat the 2 mini-moldorms, then move the pots on the left to access the main part of the room. Walk up to the upper middle portion of the room to find a chest near 2 star tiles, 2 torches and a statue. Collect the Compass inside.

Now go back down and to the left and move the pots to gain access to the paths on the left. Defeat the fire breathing enemies, and continue to the upper left corner of the room to find some more stairs, leading to the fifth floor. In this room, defeat the beetle below, and watch out for the wall of flames below. Step on the star tile near the flames to rearrange the holes in the floor. Now walk up and to the right and defeat the other beetles, while trying to ignore the bouncers, that will reflect you. Find the hole in the ground in the near the top middle of the room. Drop down the hole and you will land near the large chest on the 4th floor. Open the large chest to find the Moon Pearl, protecting you from the effects of the Dark World! Now, walk down, over the star tiles, and to the left again to make your way back up to the 5th floor. In this room again, step on the star tile below, then make your way to the east side of the room to find a bunch of pots. Each one of the pots has a heart in it. If its blocked off, you can go downstairs and back to the stairs on the right to the 3rd floor and hit the switch. Once you have enough hearts, go up the stairs that have the skull mat in front of it, then walk up to the 6th floor. Now walk down, to the left, then up to drop down to the lower platform to face off against the Mountain Tower boss.

Moldorm

To defeat Moldorm, the boss of the Mountain Tower, you will have to use your sword to hit it's tail. The rest of its body is armored, so the tail will only inflict damage. When you hit it, you will bounce around the floor, so be careful of where you bounce to. If you fall in the large pit surrounding the floor, you will fall to the room below, and the boss' life will be back to its original status. Once you can manage 5 hits on its tail, the Moldorm will start to move around more quickly. Hit it one more time to defeat it and earn a heart piece.
