Sword & Shield Maze


Northern Peak

    Your next stop after beating Gleeok, is to head up to the Northern Peak. To get there from the Explorer's Crypt, walk down 2 screens from the Crypt entrance. Go right 3 screens across the ship, up 3, right 3, up 2, right 1, up 3, left 1, up 1, left 1, up 2, and left 1 screen to enter the Northern Peak area. Now walk up one screen and use Roc's Cape to fly over the 3 holes to the right. Now walk to the right and up one screen and then to the right one screen to see a tree stump on the right. Stand on it and use the Rod of Seasons to change the season to Fall. Now walk left 2 screens, up 2 screens across the leave filled holes, to the right and down 2 screens to find another tree stump. Change the season to winter and walk up one screen, right one across the holes, and down one screen across the snow path to find a portal to Sabrosia. Enter the portal. Once in Sabrosia, walk up to the cave inside the mountain. You will see a Sabrosian throwing objects into a hole in the ground. Throw a bomb into the hole to create a volcanic eruption. The eruption will cause lava to flow into the Northern Peak. Exit the cave, and go back into the portal to return to Northern Peak. Once back, walk up one screen, fly across the lava with Roc's Cape, go to the right and then down one screen. Go right one screen and down one screen to find the tree stump once again. Change the season to summer with the Rod of Seasons. Walk to the right one screen and up one screen climbing the vines on the wall. Fly across the lava along the right wall, then fly to the left, then fly down across the lava and go to the left and up one screen, into the cave. Walk to the left and use your Magnetic Gloves to pull you across the large hole in the ground. Walk to the right and use your gloves to point them towards the magnet on the bottom of the screen. Now walk to the right and up to go up the stairs. Walk down and move the block on the right, then move the top block on the left to the left and move the one below it down to clear the path. Walk to the left and walk down and up, moving the boulder in the way to reach the stairs. Use the stairs to reach the top of Northern Peak. Walk down and to the left one screen. Go down the stairs on the top of the screen. Now fly across the holes to the bottom and walk to the left one screen. Walk to the left more to reach another set of stairs leading to the top of the peak. Walk left 2 screens and up one and into the chamber. Inside are 2 fairies and another portal to Sabrosia. Enter the portal, then walk up 2 screens to reach the entrance to the Sword & Shield Maze.

Sword & Shield Maze

    Walk up one screen and to the right one screen. Walk between the blocks in this room and shoot a seed with your slingshot and hit the statue across the gap. That will make a key fall to the floor. Pick up the jars to the right to get the key. Walk back left one screen and up 2 screens. Defeat the enemies in this room to open the door. Walk up one screen to find some enemies. Use some bombs to break open the blocks on the top of the screen to use your Magnetic Gloves to control the iron ball. Guide the ball to hit the beetle. Get rid of the other enemies with your sword to get a key. Now, walk to the right 2 screens and use your key to open the block with the key hole in it. Go down the stairs to reach the basement, then defeat the enemies and move the pots to walk down one screen. In this room, there are spiked blue rollers. Jump over them using Roc's Cape, and make your way to the lower right corner of the room to find some stairs. Watch out for the wallmasters falling from the ceiling. Go down the stairs and into the tunnel. In the tunnel, walk to the left and jump onto the platform in the lava, by using Roc's Cape, when it is okay to jump. Go to the left one screen and fly to the central platform using Roc's Cape, to get to the ladder on the far left. You will come into a room that has lava in the floor and a blue spiked roller. Jump across the lava using the stone paths, while jumping over the blue roller, then use Roc's Cape and some Pegasus seeds to fly down to the bottom of the screen. Go down one screen and follow the path while avoiding the large traps. Make your way to the button on the upper right of the room, to open the door below. In this next room go up the stairs above. You will enter a room with an ice floor and spikes. Follow the ice path down and up, while avoiding enemies, to get to the chest with the compass inside. Leave the room by going back the way you came. Once back downstairs, go to the right and open the door on the right. Approach the turnstile and stand on it to turn you to go up. Walk up then left one screen and down and back to the right to find the turnstile again. This time, it will move you down. Now walk down one screen. To access the stairs on the southwest corner of the room, stand still for a few seconds, to make the Armos statue, blocking the way, move. Go up the stairs to reach the 1st floor again. Walk right one screen to find a chest with the Dungeon Map inside. Now, use your Magnetic Gloves to drag the iron ball above, to the switch on the upper right of the room, across the lava. Make sure your gloves are on "N", when moving the ball across the lava. The pushed button will create a bridge over the lava. Now, walk back to the left one screen, and go downstairs. From here, go right one screen and jump across the lava in the floor using Roc's Cape, to get to the stairsin the middle of the room. The stairs will lead you to where the iron ball is, on the first floor. Walk to the left one screen, then make the Armos statues move by using your Boomerang, or by touching them. Then move the block to open the chest, to get the Hyper Slingshot.

   Walk back to the right one screen, then fly to the bridge and walk down one screen and downstairs. Once downstairs, walk up one screen, then fly across the lava gapto the otherside and walk to the left one screen and down to reach the turnstile. Enter the turnstile, then walk to the right one screen to find a chest with a small key. Now, go back to the left, to the turnstile and walk up then right one screen. Walk down the stairs and then use your Magnetic gloves to pull yourself across the lava. Once over, walk to the right. In this room, walk to the upper right corner to find 3 statues. Use your Hyper Slingshot to shoot 3 seeds at once, at the statues. If you did it right, stairs will appear above. Go up the stairs to reach a room with lots of blocks that have cracks in them. Bomb the blocks to make your way to the bottom left corner of the room and defeat the enemies. If you need bombs, there are som in the jars on the bottom right corner of the room. Once you get to the left of the room, bomb the blocks blocking the treasure chest and move the one block to get a small key. Now, go back to the room with the 3 statues, then go to the room on the right with a small key. In this room, is the miniboss, Frypolar. To damage him, shoot mystery seeds at him with your Hyper Slingshot, when he is surround by fire. When he is surrounded by ice, shoot him with ember seeds. After you have beaten him, a warp point will appear and the door above will open. Go up one room and use your Hyper Slingshot to shoot Ember seeds at the 3 torches on the right, 3 on the left and the one in the center, to make some stairs appear. Go up the stairs, then walk up one screen. In this room, you will have to arrange some ice blocks to make some stairs appear. Follow the diagram below to move the blocks to the right side of the room.

    Once you get the stairs to appear, go down them. Go down the ladder, then Hop up the ice blocks without stopping, using Roc's Cape, then fly to the left one screen. Jump onto the platforms and don't fall off of them. Wait to get to the upper left corner of the screen, then fly to the platform on the top. Go left and jump on top of the first trap, and let it come back up, then jump onto the second one. Let it come back up, then fly to the left and up the ladder to get back to the first floor. Walk to the right and defeat the enemies, then push the button on the bottom of the room to create a bridge, then walk to the right one screen. In this room, jump over the sliding traps and avoid the enemies to go right one screen. Go up and to the right, then use your Boomerang, and guide it to hit the blue switch on the left, to make a bridge. Go down one screen, then walk onto the green platform to reach the left side of the room. Defeat all the enemies in the room to get the southwest door to open. Open it and go through it to find a chest in the next room with the Boss Key. From the chest, walk down one screen, to where the Ice blocks are, and jump down. Open the door on the left with a small key. Walk to the left 2 screens, to find a cracked wall on the upper right corner of a room, with 3 chunks of ice in the middle. Bomb the cracked wall and walk up. You will now watch a spirit walk along a path and then disappear at the top of the screen. Follow the exact same path that the spirit took, and if you do it right, a small key will appear. Walk back down one screen, pick up a chunk of ice in the middle and walk down one screen and throw it into the hole in the floor, in the lower right side of the room. This will cool down the lava below, and make a path to a chest. Now go downstairs and walk to the right to find a chest with another small key. Walk to the left one screen and open the chest on the left side of this room to get some bombs. Now walk back to the right and go up the stairs. Walk to the upper left of this room and ride the mine cart up to the next room. Once off the mine cart, walk to the upper right corner of the room and go down the stairs. In the basement, walk to the right and down and go up the stairs again. Once at the first floor again, walk up one screen, grab a chunk of ice, and hop into the mine cart on the left. Once off the mine cart, walk down one screen, use the mine cart in the next room to go down another screen. Now, walk to the right and throw the chunk of ice in the hole. The ice will cool the lava down, below. Now hop back on the mine cart to the next room, then walk up one screen and ride the mine cart down to the room with the chunks of ice. Once off, grab a chunk of ice, then take the mine cart back up. Get off the mine cart, then walk to the left and drop the chunk of ice to open the block with the keyhole, then grab the chunk of ice again and throw it into the hole. Now, ride the mine cart back to the three chunks of ice. Grab another chunk of ice, then ride the mine cart. Get off the mine cart, then walk down to the mine cart track switch and hit it once. Now take the ice chunk back on the mine cart. Once the mine cart stops, walk over to the hole on the ride side of the room, and toss the ice chunk in. Now the lava below should be completely cooled. Now take the mine cart back left one screen, hit the switch again, and ride the mine cart back to the room with the ice chunks. Walk down one screen and go downstairs. Walk to the left one screen, and go up 2 screens. Walk to the right and open the block with the key hole in it, to find the Boss Door, one screen to the right. Get some hearts from the jars, then enter the Boss's lair.

Medusa Head

    The boss of the Sword & Shield Maze is the Medusa Head. Hit her with your sword when she is jumping around and is not firing attacks. Medusa Head will throw fireballs and shoot lasers. Hop over them using Roc's Cape. You can hit her right before she throws the blue fire balls, but if you get hit by them, it will freeze you for a few seconds. Once the Medusa Head had been defeated, a Heart container will be rewarded to you. Now, walk up one screen to find the last of the 8 essences of nature. You will recieve Changing Seasons, an essence of nature, and will be told by the Maku Tree to visit him.
