Dodongo's Cavern - Ocarina of Time

Now that you have seen Princess Zelda, you have to now go back to Kokiri Forest. Go back using the same path you used to get to Hyrule Castle. When inside the Kokiri Forest, walk to the left and you will see some vines. Climb the vines to get to the upper platform and follow it around to a hole that leads to the Lost Woods. Enter the Lost Woods and go right, left, right, left, straight, left, and right to reach the Sacred Forest Meadow.

Sacred Forest Meadow

In the meadow you will be met by a Wolfos. Destroy the Wolfos using your sword. Once it is gone, a gate will open allowing entrance to the rest of the Meadow. Follow the paths around the Deku Scrubs to get to the other side of the Meadow where some stairs are. Once there, climb the stairs and follow the path and you will then come to a clearing where you will see Saria sitting on a tree stump. Saria will then teach you Sarias Song with your new Fairy Ocarina. Play the notes she teaches you so you learn the song and then leave and backtrack all the way back to Hyrule Field.  In Hyrule Field, go in the same direction to get to Hyrule Castle. This time, on the right of the gate to the castle, there is a bridge over a creek and some stairs leading to a town called Kakariko Village. Enter Kakariko Village. In the village, walk ahead and to the left where some stairs are. Climb them and then go to the right and climb some more stairs. Make your way to where a soldier is standing in front of a gate. Walk up to the soldier and pull out Zeldas Letter to show him. He will read it and then eventually let you through. Follow the path to the Death Mountain Trail. Walk on the trail until you get to the end of it at the entrance to Goron City.

Goron City

Enter Goron City and then jump down to the bottom level of the city. You should now be at the bottom level where a large pot is in the middle. Go over to where a carpet is in front of a closed door and where a Goron is. Stand on the carpet and play Zeldas Lullaby. It will then open the door and allow you entrance into Darunias Room. Walk up to Darunia the Goron and talk to him. He will tell you his problems. Now take out your Ocarina and play Sarias Song. Darunia will start to dance and be happy. He will then tell you that if you go and defeat the Dodongos in Dodongos Cavern, he will give you the Gorons Ruby. Darunia then gives you the Goron Bracelet to use to pick up Bomb Flowers on the ground. Now leave Goron City by exiting Darunias Room and following the path of stairs up to the entrance of Goron City. Now go outside and walk to the right. You should see a Goron standing near a Bomb Flower. Pick up the Bomb Flower using A and throw it over the edge of the cliff. If you threw it good, it will land right near the Boulders blocking the Dodongos Cavern and the boulders will blow up from the bomb. Once its open, hop down to the entrance to Dodongos Cavern and enter.

Dodongo's Cavern

  • Gold Skulltulas to find: 5

Inside Dodongos Cavern bomb the wall that blocks you by using the bomb flowers on the side. Now walk ahead and then walk to the right and don't step in the lava. Stay on the right and you should find a ladder. Climb the ladder to reach the upper platform. Walk forward to the end and destroy the Beamos by throwing a Bomb Flower at it. Now go up to the Door and put a Bomb Flower by it to open it. Once open, follow the path by going ahead and watch out for the Baby Dodongos. Now at the end of the path there will be some Armos statues and a switch. Push the armos so that they cover the switch. Now climb up and open the door above the armos. Walk ahead into the next room where there are several small islands around lava. Two Lizalfos will then start to attack. Defeat them one at a time using your sword. Once defeated, go to the door on the opposite side of the room. Enter the next room and get out a Deku Stick. Light your Deku Stick with the flame from the torch. Now run around and light the other 3 torches to make the door to the next room open. When open, enter inside and follow a path to where you see a switch. Step on the switch and it will open up a door on the opposite side of the cavern. Jump down and walk to the other side now where another ladder is. Avoid the lava and the central platform and walk to the other ladder and climb it.  Walk to the second blocked door and use a bomb flower to open it. Inside is a chest with the Dungeon Map inside. Now go back to the first door and open it. Follow the path to where a large set of stairs is in the middle. Use a bomb flower near the other door and set it in the middle of all of the bomb flowers surrounding the stairs. The stairs will then fall to the ground and you will be able to climb them. Climb the stairs and then walk to the right and go up the path and around to the next room. In the next room, there are four armos surrounding a platform with a switch on it. Move the beamos that is right in front of a ladder and then climb the ladder to step on the switch. This opens up the next room. Go through the door and follow the path across the bridge over the Cavern. Once over the bridge, jump down and watch out for the blades moving across the ground. Now go up to a large gray block and partially pull it out. Climb it and then jump to the platform with the chest and the bomb flowers on it. Use the bomb flowers to throw at the door. Once you get the door open, jump to the opening and follow it to the next room. In the next area you have to use your Fairy Slingshot to shoot the eye above the fire to be able to pass. Once past, follow it to the next area where you meet some more Lizalfos. Defeat the Lizalfos and move to the left over to the next door. The next room will be like the one before the last, except you have to shoot another eye to the left of the first platform. Advance to the next room before the fires start back up. In the next room, jump over the gap and walk over to the right to find a chest with a bomb bag and some bombs inside. Now continue to the next room to find a switch on the ground. Step on the switch and then walk to the right to go over the bridge. In the bridge, there are two hole in it. Drop bombs in the holes to make them fall on the skull of the Dodongo in his eyes. Once his eyes are both red, you can now jump down and open the Dodongos mouth to find the next room. In this room, walk to the right and follow the path towards the next room where there is Keese and some blocks. Climb the blocks and walk on the wall to get around to the next path where there are some pots. Continue now along the path and you will see a block. Push the block down and over, then jump down and pull it towards the switch in the center of the room. Push the block into the switch to make the door open. Enter the next room and go over to the chest. Open it to get some bombs, then bomb the center of the room to reveal a hole that leads to King Dodongo.

King Dodongo

To defeat King Dodongo, throw the bombs from the bomb flowers in King Dodongos mouth when he is about to blow fire. This will weaken him, then hit him with your sword and he will get back up. Stay on the edge to dodge his rolling. Do this a few times and King Dodongo will roll into the lava and be trapped. A heart container will appear and a warp leading back outside the cavern. You will then be met by Darunia, who gives you the Goron's Ruby. He also tells you that you should climb Death Mountain to find the Great Fairy who gives you magic at the top. To climb the mountain though, you will need to get a Hylian Shield for good defense.
