Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time FAQ

Is there an going to be an Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo GameCube?

A special exclusive pre-order deal for the Wind Waker was available in early 2003, where you could pre-order The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and receive a special playable bonus disc with the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and unreleased Master Quest version of Oot, for free. Master Quest is an unreleased version of Ocarina of Time that was originally planned for the 64DD system in Japan, also called Ura Zelda. Master Quest features some new features as well as remixed dungeons.

Can you find the Triforce in Ocarina of Time?

The Triforce cannot be found in Ocarina of Time, even though it seems like it can be with the triforce inscription in the quest status screen, below. In an earlier version of Ocarina of Time, it could be found, but it was never put into the final release. Nintendo released some screenshots of Link finding the triforce in Ocarina of Time, however, they were released on April 1st. Nintendo Power made it clear in their February 2001 issue that the Triforce cannot be found in Ocarina of Time. Here are some screenshots of the mysterious rumors of the triforce.

How do you get Epona?

Once you have emerged from the Temple of Time seven years later, you will be able to call on Epona for easy transport across Hyrule. Head to Lon Lon Ranch to visit your old childhood friend Malon, and Epona. Upon your arrival, you will notice that things have changed on the ranch, with Ingo now in charge. Head over to the horses and call Epona by playing Epona's Song on your Ocarina of Time. Ingo will charge you rupees for riding the horses, so agree to. Ride around with Epona once, then agree to do it again. While riding the 2nd time, go over to Ingo and talk to him. He will challenge you to a race, with a wager. Agree to the race, and beat him around the track. While riding on the track, watch your carrots carefully, since that monitors Epona's energy. However, you will have to gain plenty of speed to jump over the larger gates along the track. Jumping over every gate will save time. Also, keep Ingo in back of you as best you can, by cutting him off or blocking his route, especially in the inside of the track. Once you beat him once, he will challenge you again, this time with Epona at stake. Beat Ingo again, and Epona will be yours. However, Ingo does not make it that easy for you to just leave. He will lock the gate leading to the exit of the ranch. Instead of going that way now, head over to the short portion of the fence along the far wall of the ranch. You should be able to jump over it with enough speed, and land back in Hyrule Field. You'll now be able to use Epona in the Field when you play Epona's Song.

Can you beat the Marathon Man?

Despite many rumors that you can beat the Marathon Man in a race from Gerudo Valley to Kokiri Forest, you cannot beat him in a race. You can try all you want, but he will always manage to beat you by a second. Nintendo Power has also made this clear, in their June 2001 issue.

Where is Din's Fire?

On the way to Hyrule Castle as Young Link, you will find a path to the right of the main path, past the gate and the guard. The path will lead to a dead end, with a large boulder at the end. Use a bomb to break the large boulder, to reveal a cave that leads to a Great Fairy. Inside, play Zelda's Lullaby with your Ocarina, on the Triforce symbol, and the Great Fairy will appear and give you Din's Fire.
