Fire Temple - Ocarina of Time

Death Mountain Crater

Now that you have received the Forest Medallion, you now have to make you way to Goron City, to try and earn the next Medallion. You can get to Goron City either by going the Death Mountain Trail, or by the entrance from the Lost Woods. Once in Goron City, you will notice that everyone has left, except one goron that is rolling around on a path. Jump down to his level and use a bomb when he is approaching, to make him stop rolling around. The goron will claim to have the same name as you, and will talk to you about Darunia, and that he has gone to the Fire Temple to stop the fire dragon, Volvagia. After he is done talking, he will give you the Heat resistant Goron Tunic, for you to try and save Darunia and the other Gorons. After getting the tunic, go to Darunias room and pull back the large statue. It will reveal a secret entrance to Death Mountain Crater. Once there, walk forward and use your hookshot on the branch over the broken wooden bridge straight ahead. Continue on the bridge to meet with Sheik. Sheik will teach you the Bolero of Fire, which can be used to return back to Death Mountain Crater. Now continue walking stragitht, then turn to the left, into an opening in the mountain. Climb down the hole at the end of the cave, to enter the Fire Temple.

Fire Temple

  • Gold Skulltulas to find: 5

Walk into the temple and turn to the left, after the stairs. Enter the door to find Darunia inside. Darunia will tell you to try and save the others, while he tries to stop Volvagia. After Darunia leaves, jump across the platforms on your left, to reach the first goron prisoner in the temple. Push the gold switch down outside of the cell, to open it. Once the cell is open, the goron will talk to you and give you a tip on how to rescue the others. After he leaves, open the small treasure chest inside the cell, to get a small key. Now return to the first room of the temple, with the fire statues. Walk forward to the opposite door of the one you just came out of. Open the locked door with your small key and enter the next large room. In this room there is a wooden bridge running through the middle and a lava floor on both sides of the bridge. Walk over to the left side of the room by following the wall, or jumping from platform to platform. There will be a door with a large blue block on top of it. Enter the door to find another goron. Press the gold switch down and release the goron. Collect the small key, then leave the room. Stand in front of the blue block and play the Song of Time, to get the block to move down and block the door you just came out of. Once the block has moved, climb it to reach the upper door. Inside is a like like and a gold skulltula. Once you've completed this room, leave the room. Now you must go to the opposite side of the large lava room, to find another hidden door. On the opposite side, there will be a door that is blocked by a yellow wall. Use a bomb to blast the wall and reveal the door. Enter the room to find another goron with a small key inside a chest. Now make your way back to the wooden bridge, in the center of the room. Go to the opposite door you came in, to find a locked door. In the next room, walk down the wooden plank, then climb the chain-linked cage. Make your way to the top of the cage, where two keese are, then jump down to the left where there is a stone block. Push the block forward towards the fire geyser, then quickly jump on top of it, when it is below you. The geyser will raise you to the next floor of the temple, where another locked door is. In the next room you should see a goron in a cell in front of you. You won't be able to get him now, so walk to the left where there are some torch slugs. Climb to the top of the platform, where there is a large torch, then jump over to where there is a crystal switch and a large block. Push the block off the ledge, then jump down and pull the block back some more, so you can reach the chain wall to your right. Climb the chain wall and go to where you are above the crystal switch. Drop a bomb on it, or shoot it with an arrow, to activate the switch. Once activated, climb to the top where there is another chain wall, climb the wall before the switch expires. At the top of the wall is another door. You should now be in a maze, full of rolling boulders. Walk to the left and follow the wall, until you find a door. Inside is a goron with a small key. Now leave the room and make your way to the opposite side of the maze. There will be another goron and a small key. You should now have 2 small keys. Looking into the maze from the cell, walk forward, to the left, follow the wall on your left, and there will be a locked door. In this next room, you will be over a large pit. Make sure not to fall, because its a long way down! Hit the eye switchto the right of the locked door ahead, with an arrow. Enter the door on your right, which the eye switch opened.Walk to the right and you will find a large chest with the Dungeon Map inside.

Now go back to the room with the large pit. Unlock the next door on your right. In this room, thr floor is lava and there are several iron platforms above the lava. Jump onto the platform and a wall of fire will appear behind you. Run straight ahead, following the iron platforms to the other side, where there is a door. Open the door and you should now be on top of the boulder maze. Jump to the ledge in front of you, where a torch slug is. Defeat the slug and you will notice Navi telling you about the hole in the floor below. Use a bomb to break open the floor and climb down the chain wall. Follow the hall to a gold switch and another goron with a small key. Now head back to the top of the maze. Once you're out of the hole, turn around and you should see a gold switch. Jump to the ledge with the switch and push it down. It will open up a cell on the far side of the room. Head towards the cell. Release the goron inside and get the small key. Now go back to where you entered the top of the boulder maze. Enter the room with the wall of fire and iron platforms. Jump forward and go to the right, where there is a ledge and another locked door. Open that door, follow the hall, and open the next door to enter the fire maze room. Follow the path shown on the map for this room, to find another locked door.

Once you've made it to the locked door, open it and follow the hall to the next door. You should see a goron in a cell to your right, in the hallway. You can't save him yet, so move onto the next door. Now follow the path shown on the upper half of the map, to find the gold switch. Press down the gold switch to extinguish the large flames blocking the next door. Now follow the path to the door before the Flare Dancer. If you try and open the door, it will fall down on top of you, so use a bomb to blow up the fake door, and reveal the real one. Enter the real door to face the Flare Dancer. Defeat the Flare Dancer by using Z targeting on its core and by throwing bombs at it.Once his core starts running around sneak up on it and slash it with your sword a few times, until it jumps back into the flames. It will come back out a different color. It should go from orange to purple to green. After you have defeated the last one, you will be able to leave the room. Jump onto the center platform, where the flame used to be. It will take you up to the next floor. Open the door and there should be a crystal switch to your right. Walk to the right, climb the wall, hit the crystal switch below, and climb the wall where the flame was. You should now be on the 5th floor. Open the next door and walk to the platform on your left and climb it. Press down the gold switch there, to extinguish the flames surrounding a large treasure chest. Once the switch is activated, you will have a limited time to follow the small path leading towards the chest, and to open it. Once you have made it, you will find the Megaton Hammer inside.

Megaton Hammer.jpg (21280 bytes)

Once you've collected the Megaton Hammer, head back to the door you came in to. To the right of the door is a platform with a face on it. Stand on top of it and hit it with your Megaton Hammer. You will fall one floor. In this room use your hammer to break the 2 statue pieces blocking the next door. The next room will have some fire keese and some small wooden boxes. Hit the switch the face on it, between the two torches. That will reveal stairs leading to the next room. Grab one of the small wooden boxes and jump down the stairs to the blue switch. Drop the box on the switch to open the door. Hammer the next platform down in the next room, which will return you to the fire maze room. Climb up the ledge and hammer down the rusted switch. This will open up the room in front of the switch. Play the Song of Time in the next room to move the blue block and reach the rusted switch behind it. Climb the block to reach the switch and use your hammer to activate the switch. The switch will open up the cell with the goron inside. Get the small key and exit the same way you came in. Jump over to the platform ahead with the face on it and hit it with your hammer. You will then fall all the way back down to the room where you saw Darunia. Jump to the platform with the door to return to the first room of the temple. Go down the stairs and to the left to find a statue with 3 parts. Hit the statue 3 times to enter the locked door behind it. Defeat all of the enemies in this room to advance to the next room. You should now be in a room with a like like, spinning pieces of the floor, and a gold skulltula. The room to your left has another Flare Dancer. Defeat it like you did the first one, to earn some bombs and the entrance to the final jail cell. Hit the rusted switch in the next room, with your hammer, to release the last goron and get the Boss Key in the blue and yellow chest. Exit the room and go back up the stairs to your left and to the room where you first saw Darunia. Jump across the lava using the stone platform you fell from, and open the Boss door to Volvagia.

Volvagia

After gaining entrance to Volvagias lair, jump onto the island with several lava holes on it. The platform behind you will instantly sink and Volvagia will appear out of the lava. To defeat Volvagia, use your Megaton Hammer to strike at its head, whenever it pops out of one of the holes. Hit its head once to stun it, then again. Volvagia will start attacking you by circling you and unleashing boulders on you. Duck down and use your shield when he is circling you and dodge the falling rocks from above. After several hits with the hammer, Volvagia will be defeated and its head will turn into a heart container. Enter the portal to the Sacred Realm, to visit Darunia and collect the Fire Medallion from your brother. You will then return to Death Mountain Crater and the evil cloud surrounding the mountain will be gone.

After the Fire Temple

Once back in Death Mountain Crater, make your way back to where you came in from Goron City. At the Goron City sign, walk to the left, across the wooden bridge, and you will see two red boulders blocking a cave in the mountain. Smash the boulders with your Megaton Hammer. Enter the cave to visit the Great Fairy. Play Zelda's Lullaby on the triforce to summon the Great Fairy. She will grant you a double magic meter, which will make your magic last longer.
