Faron Woods - Twilight Princess

Faron Woods

Once in Faron Woods, proceed along the path and you'll encounter your first real battle with three shadow beings. Midna will let you handle it by yourself, so you'll only be able to attack one at a time. You'll learn that as long as the last one is still alive, they can shriek to get the others to come back to life. Midna will help you by teaching you a new technique. By holding down B, Midna will expand an energy field, and if you have all 3 enemies inside the field, you can release the button to attack all 3 at once. Once they are defeated, continue along the path. You'll find a light floating above a waterfall. Check it to speak to a spirit of light. It'll instruct you to retrieve its light (tears) and keep it in the Vessel of Light that it gives you. You'll have to use your senses to see the dark insects that contain the tears. Now continue on the path using your senses. You'll find two insects of darkness right nearby. Destroy them to gain the first two tears. Keep following the path until you reach the locked metal gate leading to the path to the Forest Temple. Turn left to find the building where Coro used to be. There is one insect on the far side of the outside of the building with another tear. Now head up the ramp leading to the building, near the scarecrow, and then use Midna to Z-target up to the opening in the side of the building. Inside the building you'll find the spirit of Coro, as well as two more insects. Collect the tears, then head back out the building the same way you came in. Head over to the metal gate in front of the Forest Temple path. You'll find there's a small hole to the right of the gate, where you can dig your way in. On the other side, you'll find two insects. Collect the tears from them, then continue up the path. When you see the first lit torch, use your senses to find another small hole in the ground next to the torch. You can dig through this to emerge further ahead on the path where you can continue to the large forest area ahead.

Once there, you'll find a purple haze covering the area ahead. Before you proceed, there are two more insects on the wall to your left. At this point you should have 9 of 16 tears. To get across the area, you have to cross from the left side of the area near the wall. Here, Midna will say that she can help you cross by allowing you to Z-target her. You'll proceed to jump a few platforms by Z-targeting Midna, and you'll jump onto a the base of a very large tree. There are 3 more insects here for you to defeat. Continue up the path by doing a series of jumps using the Z-targeting technique. Jump quickly across the area with the deku babas, and watch out for the swinging log so you don't hit it in mid-air. Once you jump down all of the platforms and reach the other side, you'll find 2 more insects that you'll have to dig up in order to reveal. Continue inside the next gate leading to the Forest Temple. You'll encounter 3 more twilight enemies here, which you can use Midna's energy field technique by pressing B when all 3 enemies are in the field. Once they're defeated, continue up the path to find the last 2 insects in front of the entrance to the Forest Temple. Once you defeat them, you'll free the girl monkey again. Collect the last 2 tears, and Faron Woods will be restored to its normal state. You'll then be introduced to Faron, another spirit of light. You'll then transform back into Link, with your green tunic and cap, "the hero chosen by the gods".

Now that you're back to being Link, go see Coro to get the key to the gate blocking the path to the Forest Temple, and to get some more oil for your lantern. He'll give you a small key to open the gate. He'll also say that the woods beyond the gate are surrounded by thick fog, which means you'll be using your lantern a lot. He'll offer you a bottle full of lantern oil for 100 rupees. If you have 100 rupees, get it, otherwise just get a refill for your lantern. Now head to the gate and open it with the key. Follow the cave through to the woods area. Start to walk forward to the wooden bridge. The girl monkey that you saved will steal your lantern, but will then help lead the way through the fog with the lantern. Defeat any enemies that might be in the area, because the monkey will get scared. Once you get to the end, the monkey will drop your lantern and you can recover it. Head in the gate, and defeat the bokoblins up ahead. At Trill's Shop, refill your lantern with some new oil. As you approach the Forest Temple, you'll find a white wolf waiting for you, and will attack you. You'll then go into a cinematic with an armored stalfos who will teach you the first hidden skill of six, the Ending Blow. When an enemy is collapsed after being attacked, Z-target it and press A to give the ending blow to your enemy. Once you've learned this new technique, continue up the path to find the entrance to the Forest Temple. Use your lantern to burn the web blocking your way and enter.
