Dragon Roost Cavern

zeldagc006.jpg (11071 bytes)     Now that you've been tossed away from the Forsaken Fortress, and now that you know where Aryll is, it's time to continue your journey. You'll be awaken on the Great Sea by a red boat, named the King of Red Lions. You'll probably be shocked at first to find that he can speak to you. The King of Red Lions will tell you about Ganon, the mysterious figure that you saw at the top of the Forsaken Fortress.  You'll learn that the key to defeating Ganon, is locked away in a great power that you can wield only after much toil and hardship. The King of Red Lions will explain that he needs a sail to travel the Great Sea. Once he's done talking, walk onto the island and start your search for a sail.

Windfall Island

Windfall Island is probably the busiest of all the islands, with some green fields, numerous shops, houses, and towns people. Along the way to town, you'll probably run into an old man who will tell you of his captured daughter, Maggie, who's at the Forsaken Fortress. Continue on the path to town, and you'll find numerous shops along the way. The first one you'll probably see is the Chu Jelly Juice Shop, which you'll need an empty bottle for first, and some Chu Jelly. The next building on the right is the residence of a wealthy man, who has had his daughter Mila taken away to the Forsaken Fortress as well. The residence is actually a Auction House, which holds auctions by Zunari every night. You'll be able to talk to the wealthy man on the second floor of his residence through an entrance at the end of the path through town. The next place you'll run into will be an empty outside marketplace with a small man named Zunari, with a large coat on.Talk to Zunari and you'll learn that he wants to start a business in town. He'll sell you his Sail for 80 rupees. The sail purchase will save Zunari's business life, and he'll guarantee that the sail is the finest in the world. If you have enough rupees, buy it. If you don't have enough, search around the island. A good place to search is the Salvatore's Shop, at the base of the towns Ferris wheel, where you'll find 3 yellow rupees. You can also play his battleship game for 10 rupees, to earn a Piece of Heart. Once you have the sail, you can explore the island a bit more, or head back to see the King of Red Lions.

On the island, you can also visit the jail at the back of the town. Inside, you'll find Tingle, the fairy from Majora's Mask, in the jail cell. Walk over and talk to him, then move the vases outside of the cell to find a switch in the corner of the room. Step on the switch to release Tingle from his cell. He will thank you by giving you the Tingle Tuner, which you can use to communicate to Tingle through your GameBoy Advance (via a GameCube-GameBoy Advance Cable). Tingle will also give you Tingle's Chart, so you can visit Tingle's Island. Now that Tingle's out of his cell, go into the empty cell. Theres a blue rupees under the bed. You can roll into the box nearby to reveal a small entrance that you can crawl in. Press R to crawl in, then follow the network of passages inside. Once you're in, go left, right, straight, right, left, left, right, straight, right, straight, straight, then right, and you'll find a chest with the Picto Box inside. Theres also a yellow rupee in the vase nearby if you need it. Make sure along the way through the tunnels that you don't crawl over a wooden trap on a side path. If you do, you'll fall into the trap and you'll have to start over again outside. To leave where you got the Picto Box, go back through the tunnel, go left, straight, left, left, right, straight, right, left, straight, right, and left.

Another shop you might want to check out on the island in the future is the Bomb Shop, outside of town, right by the ocean near where the King of Red Lions is. Right now, you won't be able to buy anything, since prices for bombs are extremely high because of the grumpy bomb salesman. Here's a look at the prices:

  • 10 bombs - 10,000 rupees

  • 20 bombs - 20,000 rupees

  • 30 bombs - 30,000 rupees

Don't plan on getting a spare 30,000 rupees to buy bombs, especially when they'll be free in bushes a little later! But don't worry, prices will go down after something happens to the salesman.

Once you have the sail, head back to the King of Red Lions, in a cove near the Bomb Shop. He will then teach you the art of sailing. Set your sail to Y, Z, or X and select it once you're in the boat. Press A to put the sail away at any time. You can press and hold R to cruise if you don't have the sail up. The yellow arrow in back of the boat indicates the direction of the wind blowing. Once you understand it all, begin sailing towards the east, directly with the wind. You can check your Sea Chart and maps by pressing up on the joy pad, to confirm your location and direction. Now, head for Dragon Roost Island to the east.

Dragon Roost Island

Upon your arrival to Dragon Roost Island, the King of Red Lions will point out the spirit of the skies high atop the islands peak, the great dragon Valoo. On the island, you must seek Din's Pearl. The King of Red Lions will advise you to ask the people of the Rito tribe on the island, about how to see Valoo. Before you set off, the King of Red Lions will give you the legendary Wind Waker, a baton that was used long ago when the people played music in prayer to the gods. The King of Red Lions will teach you how to conduct in 3/4 and 4/4 time. Tilt the joystick left for 4/4 time, right for 6/4 time, and don't tilt it at all for 3/4 time. Match the notes that appear on the screen, by moving the C-stick while holding the joystick in the time you want. Watch the bar at the top of the screen to make sure you're moving the C-stick in time to match the notes.

Now that you have the Wind Waker, walk through the tunnel near you, to reach the other side of the island. where theres a small island just offshore, the Wind Shrine. Swim to the island and walk up to the 2 headstones. The one on the right is broken. Read the one on the left, then get out your Wind Waker to learn the Wind's Requiem.  Move the C-stick up, left, and right in 3/4 time to learn the song. You'll then be visited by Zephos, the God of Winds. He'll tell you taht the song you just learned will give you control over the direction that the wind blows. He'll also mention his brother, Cyclos, who spends his time creating cyclones to torment people because of his broken statue. Now that you've learned the Wind's Requiem, head back to the main island, walk through the tunnel, then walk to the right. You'll notice some large rocks blocking the path up the hill. Use the bomb flower nearby and pick it up with A. Set it down with R or throw it with A, near the boulder to clear the path. Continue up the path and blow up the boulders blocking your way. Most of the large boulders will have yellow rupees waiting for you. Once you're at the top of the path, Sidle against the mountain on the left to get to the blue rupee on the other side. Jump down carefully, then use the bomb flower to blow the boulder below the block ahead. Now you should be able to get through the tunnel in the mountain near the red mailbox. You'll find Quill on the other side, and he'll invite you to meet the Chieftan of the Rito tribe. Now continue up the path to enter the village. The Chieftan will inform you that the once-gentle Valoo has grown violent and unpredictable. He explains that if this continues, the fledglings who are of age will never receive their scales from Valoo, on the top of Dragon Roost. The Chieftan will also ask you to share some of your courage with Prince Komali, the Chieftan's son. After the Chieftan speaks, Quill will give you a Delivery Bag, and he will tell you to find a young girl named Medli, and to take care of Prince Komali. Head upstairs through the ramp on the left, and enter the first room on the left, to find Medli, the soon to be attendant to the great Valoo. Medli will give you the Father's Letter, a letter from the Chieftan to Prince Komali. It'll be stored in your Delivery Bag. Medli will also ask you to go to the entrance of Dragon Roost Cavern later. Now leave the room, go back down stairs, and walk to the doorway on the far left. Inside, you should find a long hallway, leading to the door of Prince Komali's room.. Inside, try to talk to him. He won't want to talk, so open up your Delivery Bag and set the Father's Letter to Y, Z, or X, then show it to him. Prince Komali will read it, then show you Din's Pearl, which was given to him by his grandma. After you've delivered the letter, leave the room and head back to the main room. Walk over to the doorway where the guard is standing, and enter to reach the outside back of the village. You'll find a windy, dry area, with a dried out pond. Walk to the left and jump down to where the pond is to find Medli. Medli will want to get to the small shrine near the peak of Dragon Roost. She'll want you to throw her onto the ledge ahead. Agree to help her, then pick her up and stand on the rock ledge near the pond. The winds direction constantly changes, so throw her when the wind is right. Throw her when the wind is blowing north, and she'll be able to fly up to the ledge. If sucessful, she'll give you an empty bottle. After she leaves to go up to the cavern, use your empty bottle and fill the bottle with soem of the water around the dried up pond. Now go back up to where you entered and pour the water over one of the withered plants above the pond. A bomb flower should come to life. Now, pick up the bomb flower and throw it at the boulder blocking the pond water below. If thrown right, the boulder should blow up and the water from the spring will flood the area. Now you'll be able to swim across to the ledge. Once you swim across, pick up one of the bomb flowers and throw it into one of the green pots in the statues ahead. The explosion will knock the statue down, creating a path across the lava. Blow up the farthest one by jumping on the first one, and then by throwing the bomb from there. Once both are down, you can safely jump across. Don't fall in the lava, or you'll have to start from the entrance. Once you've cleared the lava, enter the Dragon Roost Cavern ahead.
