Outset Island and Forsaken Fortress

The Legend

Long ago, there existed a kingdom where a golden power lay hidden. It was a prosperous land blessed with green forests, tall mountains and peace.

But one day, a man of great evil found the golden power and took it for himself. With its strength at his command, he spread darkness throughout the kindom. But then, when all hope had died and the hour of doom seemed at hand...

...a young boy clothed in green appeared as if from nowhere. Wielding the blade of evil's bane, he sealed the dark one away and gave the land light.

This boy, who traveled through time to save the land, was known as the Hero of Time. The boy's tale was passed down through generations until it became legend. But then...a day came when a fell wind began to blow across the kingdom. The great evil that all thought had been forever sealed away by the hero once again crept forth from the depths of the earth, eager to resume its dark designs.

The people believed that the Hero of Time would again come to save them...but the hero did not appear. Faced by an onslaught of evil, the people could do nothing but appeal to the gods. In the last hour, as doom drew nigh, they left their future in the hands of fate. What became of that kingdom? None remain who know.

The memory of the kingdom vanished, but its legend survived on the wind's breath. On a certain island, it became customary to garb young boys in green when they came of age. Clothed in the green of fields, they aspired to find heroic blades and cast down evil. The elders wish only for the youths to know courage like the hero of legend...

Outset Island

After you have heard of the legend, your quest will begin on Outset Island. A young girl named Aryll will be looking for her big brother, Link. Link will be sleeping on the top of the watchtower, or "Aryll's lookout", overlooking the Great Sea, the vast ocean surrounding the island. She'll tell you about Grandma and that she is waiting to celebrate Link's birthday!

Once you have control of Link, climb down the ladder of the watchtower, and walk across the dock to the island. Follow the path to the right to go across the bridge and to the other side of the island where Link's house is. Along the way, you'll probably run into some of the village people, such as Sturgeon and his granddaughter carrying the jar of water. Sturgeon will teach you L-Targeting if you talk to him along the way. Continue on to Link's grandmothers house, the house on the right, next to the sea. Once inside, climb the ladder ahead and walk towards Grandma. Grandma will give you the Hero's Clothes, Link's traditional tunic and boots. The clothes might be a bit warm for this weather. Link's birthday has him become the same age as the young hero spoken of in all the legends. Grandma will teach you about Orca, and how he teaches the way of the sword. She will also send you out to get Aryll. Head back outside after she's done talking, and go back to the watchtower to talk to Aryll. Aryll will have Link close his eyes and hold out his hands, to give you a surprise Happy Birthday present. the present is a Telescope, Aryll's most precious belonging. Set it to Y, Z, or X. Aryll will let Link borrow this special gift, which will be yours for the whole game. Use the Telescope to look at the Postman near your house. Once you spot him and he flies off, Aryll will tell Link to look up in the sky. This will start a cut-scene with a large bird carrying a girl. The bird will then be shot at by a Pirate Ship near the island. A cannon ball will hit the bird, and knock the girl out, landing her in the forest on the top of the island.

Aryll will then say that you should get something to defend yourself, to try and save that girl. Climb down the watchtower, and head over to the other side of the island. The first house on the left houses Sturgeon and Orca. Enter the door on the 1st floor to see Orca. Talk to him, and say that you have come to learn instruction in the way of the sword. Start your lesson and follow all of Orca's lessons. If you do it all well, Orca will give you the Hero's Sword, which you can use with the B button on your controller.

Now leave Orca, and walk to the left side of the island. Before you turn left to head to the Watchtower, turn right and follow the path up the hill to the Forest of Fairies. Head up the mountain path, and cut the trees blocking your way. Cross the bridge at the top of the hill and enter the cave on the other side. Upon your entrance, you will see the girl hangin from a tree branch. Continue through the forest until you find your first enemy, a Bokoblin. Use L-Targeting and your sword to defeat it. Now continue up through the forest, climb a fallen tree log to find two more Bokoblins, dropped from some birds above. Beat them with your sword, and the girl will drop from the tree. She'll then ask where she is, and then one of her fellow pirates will come looking for Miss Tetra. When you get back outside with them, you will see Aryll across the bridge. Then suddenly, Aryll will be snatched by the huge bird. Link now has no choice but to save Aryll.

You'll then return to the beach of the island, and Link will want to go with Tetra on their pirate ship. Quill, the Rito mailman will join your conversation and tell how all young girls with long ears have been getting kidnapped from all regions of the Great Sea. Tetra will then allow you to go to the Forsaken Fortress with them as long as you find a shield. Now, return to Link's grandmothers house and go up the stairs. You will find that the shield she showed you before is gone. Climb down and Grandma will talk to you. She'll give you the Hero's Shield for your journey, which you can use with the R button. Now leave the house and prepare to leave the island.

Before you leave, it might be wise to visit Sturgeon, or go to Beedle's Shop Ship, just offshore near the Pirate's Ship. There, you can buy or sell items that you will need later. Here's a look at what you can buy right now:

  • Bait Bag - 20 Rupees

  • All-Purpose Bait (3 Servings) - 10 Rupees

  • Hyoi Pear (1) - 10 Rupees

If you decide to buy something, you'll get a Member's Card from Beedle. Every time you buy something at one of his Shop's, you'll earn a point. 30 pts. will get you a Silver Membership.

If you decide to visit Sturgeon, you can talk to him to find out about basic controls and features of the game. Reading the pages tacked on his wall will help you get a good understanding of the basics. Sturgeon's research includes:

The Energy of LifeImproving Human Relations
Do Not Underestimate the SeaKnowing One's own Abilities
The Great Map of LifeChanging Perspective Leads to Success
Material GoodsA Fool and his Rupees are soon parted
How not to Regret the Things one fails to do in lifeBecoming the Champion of Life!

Now, once you're ready to leave, go back to see Tetra. Talk to her and say that you're ready to go. The people of the island will wave you good-bye as you depart the island. Meanwhile, Tetra will talk to you to see if you're sure that you want to go through with this. Take a last look at Outset Island, and prepare for the journey to the Forsaken Fortress!

Once you're at sea, talk to Tetra. She'll tell you to not stand around on deck, and to see Niko below the decks. Enter the ship through the door behind you. Inside, you'll find a pirate guarding Miss Tetra's cabin. Go down the stairs near the cabin to find Niko. He will explain how he is now your superior. He'll then have you take the test that all new pirates have to take. Niko will walk you through the test. First, you have to hit the switch by walking up to it and pressing down on it. Next, jump onto the closest platform. Next, jump to the rope ahead, and use it to swing yourself to the next platform. You'll only have a limited time to make it to the other side. If you manage to make it across to Niko, he'll be shocked to see you made it, and in return, he'll let you have the treasure in the chest behind him. Inside the chest is a Spoils Bag , for keeping the items you get from enemies. It can hold up to 8 types of items. Tetra will then call you to say that you've reached the Forsaken Fortress. Leave by jumping down, then climb the ladder on the right to make your way back up to the deck.

Once back on deck, go see Tetra at the top of the look-out. She'll wonder what you were doing with Niko, then she'll show you the Forsaken Fortress ahead. Since its heavily guarded, she'll have you catapulted from the ship to the fortress. Unfortunately on the launch, your sword will be knocked out, and will land at the top of the Fortress.

Forsaken Fortress

  • Disable the 3 Searchlights

  • Retreive the Hero's Sword

  • Find Aryll

zeldatww41.jpg (46516 bytes)As soon as you can start walking about the Fortress, you'll notice Tetra talking to you through a Pirate's Charm she slipped into your pocket. Now, walk up the stairs ahead. At the top, watch out not to get spotted by the searchlights. Walk up the stairs near where you just walked up from the entrance. Walk up the ramp all the way to the top of the path, and you should see a ladder. Your Pirate's Charm should sound, warning you of the monster operating the searchlight above. Climb the ladder and look for the Bokoblin operating the searchlight. Deflect his attacks with your shield to try and get his weapon, or get one of your own from a nearby vase. Once you defeat the Bokoblin, that searchlight will be disabled.

Now, go back down the ladder and to the hallway where there's 2 doors at opposite ends of the hall. Turn right and go through the door at the end. Now continue walking to the next door to the right to get back outside. Walk to the left to find another ladder leading to a searchlight. Defeat the Bokoblin operating it, then climb back down.

Walk to the right and through the door. If you haven't gotten it already, swing over to the chest on the right to get the Dungeon Map. Continue through the door ahead and walk down the hallway to the next door. Grab the Compass from the chest in this room, then swing over to the door on the left. Walk down the hallway, then turn left. Walk up the ramp to find a ladder leading to the last searchlight. Defeat the Bokoblin; 4 hits with a Boko Stick usually does the trick.

Now climb down the ladder and back to the hall. Turn left and go through the door. Swing to the door on the opposite side in this room, then continue down the outside hall to the next door. In this room, you'll find 2 Moblins and a door on the far right fo the room. Use the barrel near the door you just entered, to slowly work sneak your way past the guards and to the door at the top of the stairs. Open the door to get back outside. Walk up the path until you get to a barrel. Pick up the barrel and walk slowly forward, while watching out for the Moblin. Turn left and continue to follow the path. You'll reach a gap in the walkway eventually. Walk up to the wall and press and hold A, when you see "Sidle" on the A button. Sidle across the wall to get to the other side. Then Sidle again and pick up the 2 hearts ahead. Walk up the stairs and you'll find your sword. But first, you'll be trapped and will have to face a Bokoblin. Pick up the Hero's Sword you dropped and defeat the Bokoblin with it. This will open the large door ahead, leading you closer to Aryll.

zeldatww48.jpg (55051 bytes)zeldatww43.jpg (47290 bytes)

Enter the room and you'll find a cage full of girls , including Aryll. But, the large bird will appear again, and will pick you up and fly you to the top of the Fortress. The bird will hover above a mysterious figure at the top of the fortress, then will it will toss you to sea.
